The latest HMRC scams seem to be reverting back to postal letters – just as everyone is now more alert to potentially fraudulent emails and text messages purported to be from HMRC. If you receive any communication from HMRC asking for payments (especially with some threatening consequences), card details, or personal details, do take extra care. If you need to call HMRC always check online for their phone number, rather than relying on the phone number contained in the communication. And if you do believe a payment is genuinely required, then ensure you pay by BACS into HMRC’s account – their bank details are easily found online, or you can make a card payment once you are logged into your HMRC account. Existing clients can contact us if they receive any suspicious communication, and we will check it for legitimacy before you take any action.
